E-Mail – Use your domain name!

Your email address is important

Email is pretty central to your business but it’s amazing how many people use a “public” email address for their business. If this is how you are representing your business then you are making a big mistake. When you get spam in your mail box you expect it to be from somebody@hotmail.com or someotherguy@yahoo.com. or even something@westnet.com.au. You look at the email address, don’t recognise the name and don’t bother reading it. So many businesses around the region have their own domain name and still have an email that is along the lines of geraldtopia@westnet.com.au. This has two effects, first someone looks at the email address and thinks – small business, not very professional. Secondly, they don’t even know where to go to see what you’re selling.

If they see your email address and it’s me@myownbusinessname.com.au then they will see that you are a serious organisation and that you have a website and they can see the address and easily visit your website and find out about your product if they want to. Anyone can create an email address that says fancybusinessname@gmail.com. Is that going to inspire your confidence?

Stick to one email address

When you’re dealing with clients always use the same email address. It reduces the chance of your emails being missed or going into a spam folder or just being hard to find. My chiropractor, no names mentioned, uses two email address, one of them includes his domain name and I always get these, and these are the ones I find when I search through the emails!. The other one is a Gmail address. Fantastic. I spend $60 an appointment and his emails go in my spam folder!

Think of the future

You have a web site, you have a domain name. You’re already paying for it so use your own domain name in your email. Who know’s how long you will be able to keep your gmail address or your Westnet address, what’s it going to cost you in the future?
